This image very well composed and has a very smooth "feel". In the best of worlds I would like to see more separation between the end of the upper branch and the dark line of trees.
Try a version where you crop off part of the sky. I think you'll find that the image gains depth and it brings the dead tree into more prominence.
I posted a version to give you an idea of my idea.
I felt like I was looking at a very well done painting. You have such a subtle range of color almost monochromatic. Your composition is right on with the log leading the viewers eye into the dune and finally the snow capped mountain. I rnjoy the artistry thank you fot sharing
An extremely beautiful shot in it's composition, and although there's no doubt in my mind this photo is completely natural looking and as it were when you shot it, with the overcast sky and all, I think increasing the saturation a bit would really add the finishing touch to make it rock. Maybe even increase the contrast a bit, and the dramatic element would've been even stronger.
Looking at your portfolio, I think your style is very consitstent, though; the preference for rather desaturated tones and subtle contrasts is obviously a deliberate choice. I'd love to get my hands on a Hasselblad 503CW and a good film scanner... it would most definitely draw me back into shooting film...
