I love thisles, John. As they're all over the place here, I sometimes tend to ignore their beauty, but you remind me of it in this great Dof.ish photo. Very well selected for critique. Congrats for the BIP + Pod.
I tried this once on a capparis flower & have it somewhere on a transparency, to be scanned sometime.

PS: your portrait looks like you sure for the sympathy, but not for the cleverness : you NOT photograph like a dog!!!

I don't do florals either, but within your straw series, I think this is the epiphany of creativity. Great find, and an excellent comparison - this fits so very well, I think it's a winner.
