Excellent Hiroaki - I like the picture as it is and dont think it needs more contrast. The title describe it - consciousness - I think it all depends on the viewers perspective or mood ie. how conscious he/she wants to be. The more focussed you are, the clearer the image of the mantis becomes. Great concept! Joggie

I wonder why was it put in Critiquer's corner by the way. This is a SIMPLE but very STRONG picture. I can sense some ZEN in this image, really. The gradient of green color, and then something pop out in the middle really made this picture a pleasing image. really love this one. I love the abstract feeling this image gives me. Very nice use of shallow DoF.

Hi Hiroaki, Amazing minimalistic photo. I love how the head of the incect praying emerges from the green void around it. A very powerful image.
I think the image could use a tad more contrast; it would create a slightly bigger gradient in the green back / foreground, as well as make the head pop out even stronger.
Technically, this photo is very well handled. The shallow DOF works well, and as Mary Sue says, the diagonal orientation of the gradient is a very good feature in this photo.
Cheers,
Hugo

I think it needs a tad more sharpness on the leading eye, and bit more light there to add a little more contract, would just add to the effect of that green critter coming out of the green background.

I am glad you posted this image because it led me to your portfolio. It is interesting because it seems to be a departure from the style of photography you have posted so far.
I like the simplicity of this image. The diagonal line formed by the insect's body and antennae in addition to the monochrome color makes me think of a minimalist painting.
To my eye, the image would be strengthened if the whole face was visible, and perhaps if the face was sharper. Although I LOVE using shallow DOF, I want just a bit more sharpness somewhere. Just a bit.
Please post more macros. You have a good eye for it.
