Wonderfull I'm ballet lover and I do many photos about it...this image reminds me a degassian modern (of cours) style... even for me is not the best the dancers pose a,d the smiling loking the camera, maybee that was the intention...I don't known that is what I fill.- But excellente idea and wel done by a nice tonal grey range.- LUIS

Outstanding poses and arrangement of people, limbs, faces, etc. The poses imply a casual not-so-posed mood, even though it is obviously a posed shot. Very nice exposure in a difficult lighting situation. Bravo! 7+++ and a fave.

Giuliano - Thanks for the compliments.

I went with digital for this project because 1.) there was no budget for film expenses, 2.) I had to work very quickly with moving subjects, 3.) I had to photograph 25 different dance classes in just 1 week, and 4.) the lighting in the 3 locations was horrible - low light, hot spots, mixed light sources, mirrors everywhere, etc. I had to deliver 100 finished prints from about 800 exposures in less than a week.

This was a good opportunity to practice with photoshop. I had to remove distracting things from the walls, tape from the floor, and extra limbs sticking into the frame. There were very few posed shots.

I did this series during rehearsals for an upcoming dance show. I plan to use my trusty old Rolleiflex backstage at the performance next week when the pressure is off.

Hello Ed,
my congrats for several things... the lights, the different poses and the smiles... all togheter. Maybe you loose something in definition but I think it's a problem of jpeg compression. Why you didn't use the film fot this shot? You are a master on it :)

Bye

GG

Very nicely composed shot of the dancers, Ed! I like the high key treatment and the poses of all the dancers.
Dave.
