What a huge ship this is in comparison to the light! Excellent work here! :)

Jim Lovely colouring makes an interesting mix of a quite sombre image with the dark craggy rocks in the foreground and then lightened by the glow in the sky.

outstanding composition with excellent perspective, Jim. The foreground rocks and lighthouse give this scale and make the picture. Well done!

Thank you so much for your comments. This is indeed a large vessel. Years ago these boats were 3 to 400 feet long, now there are fewer ships but they haul more. These photo taken just before the ship slipped into the canal and then under the lift bridge. You can walk out to the lighthouse and whenthe boat goes by almost touch it. there is also a marine museum there which is free and really interesting. Lots of history of marine lore from the past.
Duluth was a major ship building city during the war and made a lot of ships which served as well as many many commercial ships.
There are countless shipwrecks in the lake. looking at the lighthouse photos fo Split Rock i have posted you are looking over the water which holds wrecks.
Super interesting
thanks again.

Yes indeed this is a big rig, i went to my favorite coffee shop this morning for a cup and a muffin, and saw this baby coming in. Whereas you folks in the UK favor tea, us swedes anTd norwiegns (sp) are coffee drinkers. I buy beans and grind them fresh for my morning cofee. Well the timing was perfect, I bought, paid and left at the right time. This was shot from the parking lot in canal park, a very nice place in Duluth with great shops and eating places. It has been converted from a warehouse district type place to a real money maker.

Beautiful colors, I like the low angle captured.

The inclusion of the lighthouse is sop impotant here Jim to give the scale of the ship. It sure is a monster. If it's anything like those that use the English Channel it can take all of three miles to stop so I hope it was pointing away from the lighthouse. Fabulous composition.
