My friend, never let the camera see an image, always over rule what the camera is going to do, you command the camera to see what you see and what you like to capture, taken number of readings from different zones in such a place and selecting an average over all reading would give you a more balanced and even light all over this place.
Sorry that some images are so hard to addit after they been taken, exssive light in a major area of an image not just will result in loosing details of that area but it will also make it so hard to recover in the post processing.

Another wonderful image here my friend, light and composition well balanced.
My friend can you slightly lighten the dark shaded areas and let the stone slightly appears, not too much just a little ?
